Smoking Areas
No Smoking within 5 metres of venue entrance
Vehicle Movements
Keep a safe distance from vehicles at all times
Wear Hi Vis safety vests near vehicles
Always use hazard lights & have someone guide trucks into position
No Smoking within 5 metres of vehicles
Ladders
Check for ANSI safety sticker
Never use a faulty ladder
Always ensure crew foot the ladder and keep a 4:1 ratio
Avoid standing on the top two rungs
Machinery
Never operate equipment without correct qualifications
Know how to stop equipment in your area
Keep a safe distance from machinery being operated
Communication
Ask Supervisors questions if you are unsure about anything
Ensure Supervisors know your whereabouts at all times
Communicate the task at hand when lifting equipment
Follow the directions of Senior Crew Members
Let the office know you will arrive on time before each Shift
SMS your work times at the end of each shift (EG 0900 1300 or 0900 1300 1330 1700 if 30 min break taken at 1300pm)
Manual Handling
Lift correctly – bend knees, keep back straight
Never attempt to lift too heavy a load
Never lift extra heavy cables packers, unpack them and carry in sections
Correct numbers for lift – use 4 crew where possible Pack trucks safely, follow experienced crew
Take care on truck ramps, never let go of cases on top of ramps
Take care operating vehicle tail lifters, always call out movements
Squads
Form into squads of three, four or five Crew Members each
Experienced Crew to lead Squads and report to Supervisor
Always report to your Supervisor for new tasks
Attitude
No discriminatory or intimidating conduct is tolerated
Never argue onsite, work for the team, not the individual
Do not question the instructions of your Supervisor
Abide by the Minimum Presentation Standards, always wear SHS Waist Pack with tools
Electrical
Inspect all electrical equipment prior to use
Only use equipment with current test and tag
Never connect electrical cables unless instructed
Never touch Powerlock until trained EVEN if instructed by client - see SHS Supervisor
All cabling should be disconnected prior to rolling
Figure 8 or lazy 8 excess electrical cable
Rigging
Hard hats must be worn whenever riggers are working overhead
Maintain a safe distance from boom lifts and scissor lifts
Never stand under points being raised or lowered (unless assisting the rigger)
Never touch a chain motor until trained EVEN if instructed by client - see SHS Supervisor
Groundies must be assigned to all Riggers or EWP operators
All overhead workers must have tools lanyarded and pockets emptied
Weather
Plan carefully for weather conditions such as heat, rain, wind or otherwise
Wear your SHS Hi Vis Vest over rain coats
Wear sunscreen, hats and appropriate clothing in extreme heat
Stay hydrated, always bring your own water to every Shift
Tips
Railroad cables when gaffing
Stack cases neatly
Tidy up back of house areas
Tidy up drapes
Go the extra mile to make the client happy
Stay OFF mobile phones (hands-free or otherwise)
Use a Klever Kutter instead of blades or knives for any cutting
Never jump, especially off truck ramps or loading docks
Reporting Incidents
All incidents/near misses, hazards, or unacceptable behavior should be reported to your Supervisor or call 02 9556 2011 24 hours a day, 7 days
For serious incidents call 000 immediately
Use the Incident Report Form or Report Safety Issue Form to Report any incidents or safety issues, no matter how minor they may appear
Culture
Always work as a team, look out for your workmates and others onsite, and uphold the values of Show Support
Senior Crew Members should always partner with junior Crew to continually train them in safe & efficient work methods
Put in 110% effort for the client, stay motivated throughout the shift, proactively seek new tasks, perform them safely and quickly, to the best of your ability, until the job is done
